1. Prepare your space
- Pick a clean, soft surface, like a carpet or rug. Hard floors can scuff the soles.
- Clear away anything that could mark or damage the shoes.
2. Dress appropriately
- Wear the socks you’d normally wear with these shoes.
- If you’re planning to wear them with a specific outfit, try them on together.
3. Handle with care
- Unbox the shoes gently and keep packaging intact in case you need to return them.
- Inspect the shoes before putting them on. Keep tags, stickers, and protective materials in place.
- For Oxfords, Derby shoes, Monk shoes, and boots, open the laces fully before sliding your foot in to reduce creasing.
- For Loafers, use a shoehorn to protect the back of the shoe.
4. Walk carefully
- Take short steps on your prepared surface.
- Avoid twisting or bending the shoes too much. This keeps them looking their best and returnable if needed.
5. Check the fit
- The shoes should feel snug but not tight. There should be enough room for your toes, and your heel should feel secure.
- A little heel slip is normal when shoes are new and will settle as they mould to your feet.
- Your toes shouldn’t touch the front of the shoe, and you shouldn’t be able to fit your index finger between your heel and the back.
6. Keep the return window open
- Don’t wear the shoes outside. Even a short walk can make them non-returnable.
- Try them on soon after delivery, leaving time to return them if needed.
7. Repack if necessary
- If the fit isn’t right, repack the shoes as they came. Replace all tissue, inserts, and packaging, and close the box securely.
8. Enjoy or return
- If the fit is right, wear your shoes with confidence.
- If not, return them knowing they’re still in perfect condition.
